Tangram design system site
Content writing • Site design • Site structure
The Tangram design system was established in 2015 to provide a cohesive UI to build the new-look Trade Me site, and is the collective effort of many talented designers, developers and engineers. Today, Tangram is used by over 100 people in 12 teams across different business areas.
A large part of my role in the design system team was creating and maintaining written and visual content for the Tangram documentation site, that enabled teams to use the system effectively. Our goal was to create a tool that our teams across Trade Me loved to use, as they began working on the new-look Trade Me site.
We focused on creating common vocabulary, with clear documentation using a ‘show don’t tell’ approach. Explaining and simplifying technical language without losing meaning was important empower all users of the system regardless of technical knowledge.
We tested content with our users, and continuously updated content based on feedback to improve understanding and reduce ambiguity.
